Approach to Automation Project

Well Automation is a separate project just like the development project. There are couple of   factors to decide to go for a Automation.

The first thing that needs to be considered is the Return on Investments (ROI).  The effort required to create the Automation is huge. If your client is going to spend Dollars on your Automation project, will he be able to get the returns of  it.

Next comes the Application/Technology feasibility with the correct automation tool. Do a POC (proof of concept)  with the tools available in the market and see how far you get the success. Its always better to do the POC during the initial Stages to know the limitation of the Automation Tool and you will be in a stage to decide which framework suites your needs.

Once the Tools is selected, you need to pick the Right candidate test cases that  are idle for the Automation.  (We have automated a search functionality which searches in given page and if not found the search string navigates to second page and so on… If i have given the same task to a manual tester he could finish in 5 minutes where as the Scripts takes an hour to complete the same task, Always choose the right candidate)

Now time to implement the Framework and do proceed to Automate your test cases…
